Primers popping out sounds more like headspace issues then necked up brass issues. Are you sure you're not setting the shoulder back when you neck up and resize the 270 brass? - dan

With the 270 cases my primers are nice an flat.
with the original whelen they arnt "popping out" but they are definatley not Flat, an not the same as the factory ammo primers.. without a good close up photo i guess its hard, il try get a photo up

If the primers and the powder charge are the same then the pressure was greater on the .270 case converted to .35 Whelen. It is either case capacity changing pressure or you have "tight" necks.
Below a "donut" caused by case forming which can cause pressure spikes.
WhelanLad, I sometimes fireform my .303 Enfield cases by the "false shoulder" method by necking "up" the case to .35 and then resizing the case until the .303 case headspaces on the shoulder at the "false shoulder" instead of headspacing on the rim. I have to check and mike the necks when the cases have been fireformed looking for "donuts".
Below a exaggerated false shoulder for example only, normally the false shoulder in located further down the neck.

Ok I've read through the thread but my simplest of questions regarding this topic have yet to be answered... Being a fairly new reloader, and never having previously resized brass from one caliber for another I have to ask.
What procedure should one follow for taking the .308 brass which I have hundreds of, and sizing it to 7mm-08? If it makes a difference, I prefer and plan on using a Redding Type S Match Full length die set for my 7mm-08 as that is what I use and know from my 308 reloading. How does a person suggest going about the intial sizing of the brass, so that I can load a few dummy rounds to measure my loaded brass for the correct bushing size?
I'd love to hear some of the variances and reasoning for each suggestion. Any and all help is appreciated, thanks all.
