Im new to reloading and im going to need to pick up a bunch of brass.(.308) Im wondering where any of you guys from this fourm get .308 brass. Seems like its hard to find.

Thanks
Nick

Several manufactures have put a hold on retail sales due to military demand from what I understand from a few of the site sponsors. There some lapua brass if you look around but brands like winchester are like hens teeth on the retail level.

Range Sports Unlimited has Lapua 308 . Give Paul Reibin a call . No internet or email but his number comes up if you Google the company name .

I like to buy some ammo then keep the brass. That way someone else did the reloading for me at least once. But I would say buy all the same brass, since different companies have slightly different specs on their cases.

...of all the range brass I pick up (X1F), .308, 30-30 and 30.06 are the most popular (around here)...from there I form whatever else I need...
PM me if you'd like some .308 to get started....you pay shipping, the rest is on me

I'd say 90-95% of my .308 is range pickup. I make sure I go to the range 1-3 times a week just before and during hunting season as most people sighting in for their hunt don't pickup brass or reload. Got loads of .308, .30-06, .30-30, 7mm RM, and .303B this way.
After about 2 years of regular range collection I'm sitting on around 1000 .308 cases. I sort them by brand and sometimes weight sort as well but haven't noticed any difference in doing so.
There are at least a few other range rats collecting brass at the same range so my guess is I've collected maybe 10-20% of it in that time.

Several manufacturers have published announcements denying this. They admit to temporarily halting production of some less popular cartridges but that mil/LE purchasing has had nothing to do with the shortages. It's simply a matter of demand far outstretching supply as many thousands of people got into reloading at the same time after the Sandy Hook shooting and the panic buying and hoarding hasn't stopped since.

Only a couple of the manufacturers even offer NATO spec brass (much tighter hardness tolerances on the cases at various points) so those that don't have no reason to stop supplying civilians when they don't have significant military sales.

Could they be lying? Possibly, but I don't think so personally. When trust in your name is such a huge part of this industry it would be corporate suicide to lie to your customers (unless it's an Obama conspiracy like some theorize but that's another matter).

I wait until the guy shooting his m14 leaves the range. Piles of 308 picked up that way. Sometimes it's cheap stuff or berdan primed but I've got a lot of federal brass out of it.

I wish my range was active enough for me to pick up brass but it really inset .. im always on the look out for .308 brass. Thanks again for the info.

Just picked up about 80 .308 Win and 80 30-06 Springfield during my last trip to the range :)

I usually fired factory ammo and kept the brass, that way I have matching lots.

No .308 rifle right now.

I know, I know!

Still have ammo and dies, so I might run into another one.

Hirsch Precision,
For the cost of .308 lapua brass, there's no reason to be mix and matching a bunch of range/used stuff or lower quality brass.

Brass manufacturers claim to have NOT reduced civilian production... they have refocused production to match civilian demand however... it is just that the demand is sky high right now... mostly due to internet fear mongering and regurgitated here say.

I have a pile of .308 FGM brass sitting around. I figure the way things are going it is better then cash lol. I have noticed some trouble finding high end .308 rounds let a lone brass. and the shops that have the "good stuff" are being dicks and changing sky high priceses. FGMM 168gr HPBT 60$ a box....... I feel my wallet cry everytime I walk in lol

Do you re-load the steelcased stuff? hows that work out for you?

This for sure. I tried brass from different factory ammunition and assorted range pickups, the Lapua brass is much nicer.

Presuming you are shooting targets (vs. hunting or combat) you should be able to recover and re-use your brass, and if you are reloading it for the same rifle you may be able to neck size it and (depending on load) you should get multiple reloads from the each piece.

Contact Bogie ! He pickups brass at a local Lower mainland range and separates and sells it and all the funds go to a kids program. His prices are very good, his brass is great, defiantly give him a message. Tell him I sent you, and Paul will look after you right !
