308 budget build information

Is there a difference between all the different savage models such as the 10 and 111 etc.??

Jerry I have bought stuff from you in the past but not with long range shooting in mind. I was on your site today for a while reading. It will be a steep learning curve but I am up for it. My buddy has a full reloading setup and I have the dies and about 150 brass cleaned and primed waiting for what will come.

To my understanding it just has to do with the finish and options. Double digits are short action and triple digit long action.(The 10/11 is their short action rifles and the 110/111 are their long action rifles.)

It looks like the difference between the x10 and the x11 is the comb on the stock. The x10 has a raised comb and the x11 has a straigt comb As for difference between 10,11,12,14. Same action but different barrel contour, stock finish, bolt handle, mag vs non mag etc. 10 being sort of a base model, but seems like 11s are taking that place with 10s offering more options now. 14s being more fancy finish. Oh yeah forgot 16s. There the weather warrior series. I believe usually stainless with a muzzle brake. Hope that makes sense and helps you out.

10- sporter barrel synthetic stock (model 10 predator is heavy barrel though.)
11- pretty much the same as the 10
12- varmint barrel
14- classic series wood stock sporter barrel
16- weather warrior stainless

here are few informations i got off surfing the web

Kimmer thanks alot, this thread has turned out to be as useful as I hoped.

One more before I go to bed, is the stevens and savage the same?? I looked up the stocks and they all say savage and no reference to the stevens. I have been offered a stevens in 308, model 200 for a reasonable price.

The Stevens is basically the same as a blue pre-accutrigger Savage. there are limited caliber choices and no left hand. All parts should interchange among the same models but i have never collected stevens so i could not tell you anything about it.

find out if stevens do have exact action as the savage, which i think they do... might be wrong.. Stevens will not have many aftermarket parts as Savage or rem lines and if actions are tad different, i would not even bother with it. Just so many parts that are made for most of savage models and I would spend 100-200 more to just not deal with trying to find what fits and what dont.
my 1 cent of info here lol.

Savage has a glossary of all the numbers and letters for their rifles and what it means.

Simply put, the actions are SS or CM then you add accessories and variations of parts to come up with the whole range of products.

The Stevens and Savage non accustock rifles are the same thing (blued). All parts interchange and I recommend Stevens as donors if replacing the trigger and most of the parts. I do use the Savage Accutrigger on 1 build cause I wanted the heavier trigger and the accutrigger works surprisingly well.

The build on a budget walks you through the steps.

Once you understand that the SAvage products are very similar with a few variations like the target actions, very easy to work with.

yea thats decent rifle with mc millan stocks but the guy is only accepting cash. if you live near him then it would work fine. oops NVM, he is accepting EMP...
You can also Shoot the crap out the that barrel and if it goes bad, then you can replace it later so that would be a good one for ya.
308" caliber tends to shoot very accruate with factory loads and even better with reloads and if you decide to reload, try 160's with Varget powder. Varget seems to work on many shooters 308

Ok a decision and purchase has been made. I found a model 11 hunter package unfired in 308 with box mag. It is unfired in box and the guy could not return it without receipt. It was supposed to be a left handed for a friend but it isnt. I got it for $375.00. I can use the scope and rings on my boys rifle so this works out great.

I plan on breaking it is slowly and I will be looking for bedding information and a replacment trigger after I break it in and get a base line on what it is capable of with factory loads.

Well i got to the range and sightes her in. Bore sihted my arsebole!!! Anyhoo got it sighted and shot a couple nice groups for it being so cold. About 1.5 inch at 100. I can do better and so can the gun. I am out for deer this week and connot wait to start building off this.
