.308 bullet for 1/11 twist rate

For close up stuff like that you can try 155 or 168 sierras, or 155 Hornady Amax. If you want to go further out try either 175 Sierra matchkings or the178 Hornady Amax. With either of those you should have it covered.

We stock Lapua Scenar's as outlined and we also stock

Bergers 155 vld and bt, 168bt and vld, 175gr vld, 185 vld 190 vld, 210vld all which can be stablized with a 1-11 twist.

All have proven excellent results and it really depends on your barrel/cartridge. The 175 Berger is very popular

What gr bullet in .308 would you recommend for a 1/11 barrel twist. Range will be 200 - 400 yards

My .308 has a 1:11 twist, 23 3/8" barrel, and I get very good results with 175gr SMK's

I shoot 1 in 11.3" twist McPhee Stainless 26.5" .308 barrel.

The 168 & 175gr SMKs both shoot extreme well out of it, but the Hornady 178gr AMAX shoots the best (All moly coated).

You are right, those are outstanding choices, availability sucks locally in most places though.

Mike - we have good stock here in Alberta

Any given twist will stabilize a broad range of bullet weights. As a rough gauge, a .30 caliber barrel with a 1:12 twist will do well with bullets up to 170 grs, a 1:10 up to 200 grs, and 1:8 up to 240 grs. Although it is claimed by some, I have not detected any loss of accuracy by shooting light bullets in fast twist barrels, but I have had some pretty sad experiences with heavy bullets in slow twist barrels.

My factory .308 PSS barrel (1 in 12" twist) shot 175gr SMKs & 178gr Hornady AMAX bullets with no problems. Was getting Sub MOA out of the factory pipe.............

Well, there you go, but I did say a rough gauge. I expect there are shooters who get better than MOA with 220 MK's from 1:10 barrels. When they first appeared I tried Amax's (I do not recall the weight) in a Sportco barrelled .308 which shot MK's quite well. The results were uninspiring and, I admit, I never gave them a second chance.

Some bullets work better in certain barrels.Just as not all box stock Rem700 PSS's will shoot like mine did.I know of others who have tried my loads in their stock PSS pipes and they didn't get the results I was getting.

I have been lucky so far getting decent shooting factory pipes on the rifles I have bought.:D
