308 cases

I have been necking down 308 cases for my 7mm08 for years. I have never run into any problems.
When I bought a 243 I thought I could do the same by running the 308 case up in my 243 die. Not so. Ran into problems.
I took a couple of the cases I had coverted to 7mm08 and ran them up in my 243 die. Works perfectly.

Necks need to be reduced in steps. I have neck dies I use.

That's why RCBS made [maybe still do?] a forming die to turn 308 brass into 243. The same thing, albeit 2 dies, to turn 308 into 22-250.

Always, ^^^^^^^^^ I've done lots of 308 to .243. Made 3006 to 8x57 and 8x57 to .308. Always annual before and after on big steps.

Annealing may not be his friend in this instance.

It may make the case too soft and collapse the shoulder.

If the OP does anneal, he should only anneal the neck and stay away from the shoulder and case body.

Doing it in two steps would IMHO be the best way.

I did not mean to anneal for a one step solution.

Should have said anneal first, before the two step process...
