.308 COL gauge

I bought one of the hornady COl gauges for my .308 and .223 and was wondering:

I have a remington 700 sps varmint and the COL i measued with 168gr BTHP hornady match was 2.990". Seems quite long to me, as so far the rifle like a load at 2.810". Anybody else get what seems long readings?

Remington chambers are really long. that's normal for a Remington. load to magazine length.
