Hey all. I loaded up some corelokt in 150gr for my 308. The COAL that I measure for my rifle is 2.854" so I dialed that back 10 thou to 2.844" but the load data say COAL of 2.735". The cannalure is way out of the case. Any thoughts on this?

I loaded 14 of them and of the 4 I did seat 4 of the to the book value of 2.735". I just shoot them one at a time but even with them extra long they still fit in the magazine and feed okay.

I have a Savage .223 bolt action with a longer throat than my AR15 rifles, and I can seat the bullets further out with warmer loads. Manuals are just ball park information and each rifle can be loaded to its own "custom" settings.

As with any load it should be worked up to for safety, reading the case for signs of pressure.

Simple Trick for Monitoring Pressure of Your Rifle Reloads

The reloading manuals will list SAAMI spec for overall length. Your gun may prefer (from the point of view of performance / accuracy) a different length. It's up to you to determine your particular specs.

Also, the overall length is not a good measurement for determining seating consistency. A better measurement is the base to ogive length, but that requires some more in the bits and pieces department, and is not directly translatable to another gun / bullet /tool combination.

Another thing to keep in mind: if you start seating them deeper, you will reduce the effective case volume, and as a result, increase the pressure. The cannelure is intended for crimping the finished round, not necessarily as a reference mark for seating depth.

If they work for you the way you have them, go for it.

They have a flat soft lead for the nose. They are .308 diameter but some 30-30 are that caliber now.

Do they look like this?

Those are for a 30-30. And 30-30 uses .308" bullets as well. It isn't a recent thing.

You are being very difficult. You are right they are not in the Hornady book. The Hornady book has their version listed but the Remington corelokt are the same thing. They are a soft point hunting bullet 150gr with a long ogive. The cannalure is where it is supposed to be if they are set to a seating depth giving a COAL that is listed for the Hornady interlok.

OAL is for reference only, not the Bible or set in stone. Bullets should be seated as close to the lands as practical....ie if it's safe and does not interfere with function of the rifle.
You don't state what kind of rifle.... If it's an auto loader forget OAL, seat to the cannalure and crimp it.
If it's a bolt gun you are on the right track.
