308 Gopher loads

Just wondering if anyone here loads real light 308? I really love this Israeli Mauser I got and I'm thinking of working up a gopher load like 110gr or 125gr? How'd it work out? I mean light bullet, going fast not "light cause my arm hurts".

I'd bet that if you re did this thread and said you'd like to do a light load for coyote shooting there would have been lots of fellas with some advice for you.......... FS
 
I've used the Nosler Ballistic tip in 125grain in the past with decent success. Never really pushed them out for distance, but they shot well and recoil was less than the 168's I went to next.
I tried the 110 soft point and I swear they were just tumbling right from the muzzle.
 
I've shot groundhogs with my regular 155 grain match ammo and it worked fine - I'm just saying this to say, don't overlook using any known-good ammo that you already have.

Count another vote for Nosler 125 Ballistic Tips, you can push them a bit faster than 150+ grain bullets, and they are pretty straightforward to get to shoot accurately.
 
Not sure about loading lighter .... seems a little bit of a waste of effort to me. Dead is dead ... may as well make it interesting. I'd much rather load them up for Moose and spend the next few minutes laughing at the pink explosion that was a gopher Laugh2
 
i've seen gophers hit with a 308/110 ( that's the bullet for the m1 carbine) pull-downs, and that "pink cloud" is typically all you find- there's literally NOTHING LEFT-i've also seen "clients" shoot them with 308/180's and thought " what a WASTE of a good bullet" but held my tongue b/c they were paying the bill- your BEST gopher solution is STILL the 22 - either rim or center fire
 
for jacketed bullets i use my 223 bolt action....but i do like taking out my 303 brit from time to time. i use my cast bullets in there and works great in a 308 or 7.62x54r as well....it is from the lee mold 311-100....i go with 6 gr of unique and a large federal primer....kicks like shootin a 22 and real cheap to load...good luck with your 308 gopher killin. it is alot of fun.
