Hey all,

I was just curious what grain loads you're shooting in your m14's? Any problems with higher loads say 160 and up?

Cheers

So far I've only ever shot ~143grain FMJ out of my M305, but I have heard a few people saying that extended use of heavier loads such as 180grain can cause damage to the rifle.

Cheers,

168 grain Sierra match kings shoot great out of M14's. You need to use the appropriate powder and loading. I used hogdon 4895 and a light loading, and they shoot a nice group and don't produce much ejection force, as the brass drops right beside the rifle. They did shoot quite a bit low at 600 yards though, but were pretty consistent.

I was just testing my newly tuned M14 today. Installed a new spring guide and a shim at Hungry's last Clinic.

A milder load of Varget under a Sierra 168 shot quite well. These were shot at 100 yards. I used an aperture front sight at a black round bull about 8" in diameter.

For me its 168 gr Sierra HPBT match #2200 with 42 gr RL-15+ 2.80” COAL; which is equivalent to the M852 Match round. This gives me repeatable sub 1 moa @ 100 m.
Had to replace bolt roller this spring(which is a ##### of a job) , but this was due to the Springfield receiver being out of spec, (Surprise) not due to the dwell time of the RL-15.

The prescribed load for our shooting team was a 168 gr Sierra MK with 43.0 gr W748 , all the members shot that load. Nothing spectacular for velocity, but accurate beyond our abilities to hold the rifle. :D

Currently my fav today is 155 gr Lapua Scenar or Hornady Amax 155 gr with 41.5 gr WC835, that surplus ball powder is around $ 17.00 per lb when you order 7 lb bags (no kidding) from Higginson's Powders outside the Ottawa area.

cheers and be safe.

42.0gr H-4895 behind any 150gr pill.

It's a load that I have found to adequate in 16 different rifles. I built the load for my rifle, did a ladder test for my dads rifle as well as my cousins and my brothers. All of them are norks, all of them had the best groups at 42 gr......

Now I just try that load first in any 308... It always seems to work!
