Just thought I would post up some photos of some unscientific testing I have done the past few weeks. The setup is 2 milk jugs placed infront of an old police vest... none of the bullets penetrated any layers of the vest after passing through the jugs. All shots were fired out of a 20" tikka ctr in 308 with the impacts taking place at 200yards down range. On the left is the 178 grain eld x, retaining 140grains. Middle is the 165 sst, jacket separated and I lost the lead piece afield. The far right is a 195 grain eld match.... I didnt expect that result as it couldn't have been going much over 2300fps.

Happy to see the ELDx did so well. I used a 7mm ELDx @175gr on a mulie this year and it seemed to perform very well. Tiny wee entrance hole and it didn't go more than 10 yards. Exit was a bit harsh, but it was all ribcage.
 
While I haven’t played with the ELD-X yet,your results Are what I figured.
The ELD-Match are designed to fly right and punch cardboard, water would do this easily to them, I’m surprised you found as much of it as you did. I had to pull a few and realized real quick how fragile they were; the puller destroyed them and the only other bullets I’ve seen damaged by this puller has been soft lead.
The SST’s have always worked accuracy wise for me but have always left questionable field results, they worked, but not like I expected or how other bullets worked. I quit using them after one trip, your picture supports that decision.
The ELD-X’s look good though, if they fly as good as the ELD-Match and consistently open as per your picture they might be something worth playing with.

Field test...Son hit a deer in Oct with a 165 SST at 50 yards. Was being pushed by 58 gr IMR4350 out of a 3006. Velocity..2900-3000 FPS. 97 grains of the bullet remained as one piece. 59% weight retention. I suspect better weight retention if the bullet had been travelling slower. BTW...Deer Bang-flopped.
 
Yeah was really suprized at the eld result too, being that impact velocity had to be under 2000fps. Hopefully I get a coyote or 2 lined up at 300+ yard distance, I suspect it will have the red mist effect I'm looking for :)
