Hi Guys, I am just testing the waters here and would like to here from you if you have developed or used Hodgdon H335 successfully in a 308 Win with mid weight bullets.

What I am hoping to do is create a good shooting hunting load for my Mossberg Patriot with the Barnes TTSX 150gr using H335 for deer and maybe black bear.

Not the first powder that comes to mind when reloading the 308 but it could work but then again so will most other powders out there,
will you get ultimate results not likely, it's a better 223 powder than one to use for the 308. With so many good 308 powders out there why the H335!

It is a good choice. The military ammo (similar weight bullet) is often loaded with a similar powder.

It would be prudent to use a magnum primer to ensure reliable ignition at all temperatures.

I'm loading the 130 gr. TTSX in my .308 with Varget (49.1 gr.). It's a compressed load and is giving me just over 3000 fps with a 22" barrel. Great accuracy and because it's a copper pill that gives you close to 100% weight rentention, you can go lighter which translates into greater velocity. Already dropped one deer this fall with that load. Not sure what speeds you'll attain with the 150 gr. TTSX. Just remember you need at least 2000 fps for reliable expansion of the Barnes TTSX bullets. You might not get that beyond 300 yards so deopending on what your lonest shot might be you might consider dropping down to the 130s.

I use the 7mm (.284) 120 gr. TTSX in my 7mm-08 and I have a box of 110 gr, to try next season once I develop a load for them. You must be using those 150 gr. in a larger caliber, I reckon.

BTW, I think the same way you do regarding the copper pills, as do several other hunters I know. I just don't say it very frequently because of all the raised eye brows and nay sayers I'm likely to encounter who have been shooting lead core bullets all their life. LOL
 
I use WC735 which is a surplus powder pretty close to H335. It's good up to the 150's in 308 but pretty much taps out at 2800fps in my 22" rifle. Mag primers are strongly recommended with these ball powders if you want any kind of consistency.
 
To be honest for minute of deer/bear I've had good luck with any powder and a 308 or 303 but have used H335, WC735, IMR4895 and IMR4064.
