308 Hunting Rifle

Any of those rifles will be more than adequate. Of the four mentioned, I would go with the tikka or the browning. I don't care for the ruger compact,, too light and whippy for my tastes. And if you're hunting from a stand a lightweight gun isn't that important. The kimber is a really nice rifle, but I'm not sure I could bring myself to hunt with a gun that expensive.

Hmm everyone seems to have their own preferences as expected lol. The reason i dont have savage on that list is because i had bad experiences on a previous 30 06 bolt broke a couple times during deer season turned me off them although im sure the new models are reliable. Would anyone be able to provide more info on the Kimber i like how its weight is rated at 5lb 10oz, although i noticed someone mentioned about it's accuracy?

Although any of the rifles listed would do the job, I would choose the Ruger:
-Open top receiver allows for single loading
-Includes rings
-More traditional styling than the Tikka or Browning
-Ease of bolt disassembly
-Mauser style claw extractor and controlled feed (not really critical, but nice to have)

Kimbers look nice but sometimes have disappointing accuracy, especially for the price.

Remington wasn't one the list. I have had good luck with the T3s and they are quite accurate out of the box.

.

Ya but, still.

Actually just couldn't pass up the chance to hack on ya a little...:)

Have a good weekend, sling some barbs my direction. I'll be gone bear hunting.:D

At least Boomer and tjhaile give good advice.

My choice would be the Ruger, but any such choice is more a matter of personal preference rather than it is a question of quality. All of the rifles mentioned will work, but my preference is uncluttered ejection ports, claw extractors, and bolts that can be disassembled without a great deal of fuss.

hmm i never heard of sako a7 its not on the finland sako website, i found the a7 website and it says "wolrd-class accuracy" lol. it says imported by beretta on the barrel and looks a lot like a t3 and is a little lighter, i checked on EE and there priced around $1150 around the same as the t3 laminate. Is there anymore info about these?

A couple of years ago , my choice was down to the T3 vs the Ruger KM77 Mark 2. After handling both, I liked the look of the T3, but I was really put off by all the plastic. In the end, I went with the Ruger. True, the trigger is a bit heavy, but it is still capable of better accuracy than I am, and I know that every time I pull the trigger it will fire. I topped it off with a Bushnell Elite 3200 in a 3x9. Now with the Hawkeye, the trigger has improved. I would say Ruger, hands down.

+1 on the model seven in .308. Mine is in stainless with a 20" barrel though (older models had the 18.5") I just wish mine was in wood. I've grown tired of plastic.

Go through the remington custom shop and get one in fullstock. Beautiful gun.

Times 2. I switched to the Model 7 in 308 last year after 20 years with a Model 700. The quick handling and lighter weight makes it so much easier to pack it around all day in the woods. The range of bullet choices and weights for the 308 allows me to hunt everything in the province.

I was looking at Ruger M77 hawkeye compact black laminate for its weight and looks. It has a 16.5" barrel although most of my shots are 100 yards or less i occasionally take some up to 300 yards would having such a short barrel effect my accuracy very much at 300 yards? would i be better of going with a standard length barrel?

The Tikka is an absolute tac driver. Very light, and have had zero problems with so called "cheap plastics". So far, ZERO disappointments. I would go with the heavier bbl., and not the lite.

Short 16.5" compact barrel would not affect accuracy, except maybe to improve it slightly. Barrel would be stiffer.

But you would lose 100 fps and the noise would be painful.

I like the remington pump as a hunting rifle. Floating barrel and very good accuracy in every one i own and have seen.

I don't know it the new Sako A7 comes in 308, but if a light weight gun is what you are looking for, I have heard that these are good shooters, and a lot less money than the Kimber's. FS

I have the Ruger compact in .308 with the laminate/stainless. It's fantastic. Easy to carry, quick to aim, and looks and performs well with a 2-7x on it. Of course, youhave to put up with being teased for carrying such a small piece...

Would definitely recommend it.

"...which one feels best..." Exactly. Then buy based on price.

Hi speed should be affordable and available for all. Your channeling your energy in the wrong direction. The pipe is there let the people use it.

just had an epiphany if thats how you spell it. Marlin XS7, super light, fluted bolt. Handled one the day I bought my Savage and didn't buy it because the barrel wasn't floated but the reports are great for accuracy. Lightest rifle I've handled but you seem like you wanna go wood.

I bought a new Sako A7 stainless synthetic for 1080 shipped to my Door. That's not much more than the stainless synthetic Tikka T3. Can wait to shoot it.
