Anyone loading .308 bulets in the commie x39 rounds? I've read a couple of articles aying it can be done with a slight loss in velocity. I'm curious as to what could be used to give the 7.62x39 a tougher projectile for deer sized game.

depending on your barrel I would suggest you would have better luck with 311 or 312 bullets made for the 303 brit, lots of them out there. As far as heavier bullets in a 7.62x39, I have no experience. Just know the bore on a 7.62 is a bit bigger than 308 typically.

Might be hard to find decent bullets for...I've watched a buddy's frustration trying to find bullets for his m44 nagant. Barrel slugs at .315....

There is a great piece on this in Rimfire Central. Scroll down till you get to the centerfire section. William Harper is the man that seems to have a fair amount of Exp. with his CZ 527 Carbine in 7.62 x 39. FS

"....308 bullets..." Wrong diameter for an SKS. Might be ok in an older Mini-30. They had a .308" barrel at one time. Rumoured to be .311" now.
There's 150 grain Hornady SP data on Hodgdon's site. .312" diameter bullets. There might be COAL issues though.
"...watched a buddy's frustration..." Send him to Steve at .303british.com. He's making 200 grain .314" bullets, seasonally.

They fire fine. No noticeable loss of velocity. Actually, they swage up to the bore size it seems.
I have fired 200gr .308 RN GameKings in mine. I was developing a subsonic round that still packed a powerful punch. 1022 FPS, 15 gr Unique. It was beautiful, only, it didn't reliably cycle the action.
I fire .312 150's in mine all the time and it is not hard to get them. Trying 180's to see how they perform. Trying for a moose round to match just because I can.

.308 works in a mini 30

i'm shooting .308's in my mini 30 and they work great.

but dont try the h4198 load in your sks's 53,000 psi....
