.308 is shooting pretty good!

I have the same rifle only it is a lefty and glass bedded also tried to free flote it but dident take material out ... It can shoot bug hole groups some times all ways sub MOA and has impressed the hell outa me on a few occasions one time I had a group at 350 yards that was well under an inch and 2 shots were touching , the sps-v stock is a decent poc gets the job done but is not very ergo for the rifle nice shootin!

Typical factory rifle crap. Stock has too much drop for proper prone supported. I have the same problem with my Howa 1500 and its hogue stock. If I mount the pad to my shoulder properly, recoil is almost unnoticeable with .308. But then I have to bend my neck all to hell to get a proper sight picture thru my scope which destroys my focus as I fight the rifle. To get comfortable I'd have to mount the top of the recoil pad across my clavicle and get my ass kicked by the rifle until I develop a flinch. Its just a sporting stock with a fatter forend. I geuss theyre trying to cover as many bases as possible when designing these things.

It's funny because they have like 40 different versions of the 700. Having a full on precision gun is nice, but they should have cheaper varieties of this. I would assume you'd have the same issues with the SPS Tactical's?

I hope to buy that version but I will no doubt be upgrading the stock when funds permit and I notice it's holding my ability back.

Same stock so yeah. Would be good for shooting off a bench or prone up on your elbows but thats not a ideal shooting position. Dont get me wrong, its not like its a useless design or anything but as your skills progress it will start to hold you back. This is why the best stocks are so adjustable: fit the rifle to the shooter, not the shooter to the rifle. When you completely relax in a comfortable position, good things happen :)
