thx...so all those powders have simular burning rates? and i can use there qty #'s safely or should i reduce or add a few grains too it? thx for ur time

NO. NO, NO!

The data for one powder is NOT interchangable with ANY other powder regardless of burn rate.

Cabela's sells some booklets with reloading data for each caliber.
the price is about 6$.
In it, you can find a compilation of data from :Sierra, Hogdgon, Hornady, Speer, Alliant,.....Nosler... almost all. I think Norma is missing...... IF.

If you only load for 308, is the most useful manual.
If you're new to it, you NEED a complete manual for the start.

Are you looking for animal accurate or paper target accurate? What type of rifle?
If you ask Target Rifle shooters what they use about 80% will tell you Varget. Followed by IMR 4895, IMR 4895sc, IMR 4064, RL15.
There was a poll on the US Palma web site a while back about what components LR shooters used in .308. I can't remember the exact numbers but the top components were.
Lapua Cases, Fed GM210M primers, Varget powder, Sierra 155 gr bullets.

Well i am looking for paper accuracy, and I shoot a Remington 700 VSS in .308 it is already been bedded and has a 24" bbl...I have tried a number of loads with Benchmark powder and my grps are not closing up at all...so i think maybe it would be my loads because with Federal match ammo in 150 gr i am consistantly grouping .5 in @ 100 M, so i am trying to find a powder and load that could equal or grp better then the match ammo...because that stuff gets expensive hehe anyways i will maybe get my hands on Varget and give that a try anyways thx for ur suggestions and thx for ur time

Try switching bullets - either 150 flat base (Hornady SP's), or another bullet weight, such as 165's... This is likely to have a greater effect than swapping powders ad nauseum.

I have had good luck with H-335 in .308 using CCI-BR primers, and Sierra Palma match 155gr, assembled in Winchester brass. Loads of time prepping brass with a multitude of brass prep tricks applied. Consistent .5 MOA out of a Sako Finnlight. The charge weight was kept a little under maximum charge as per the Sierra manual.

I like the powder as well because it meters very accurately.

Based on my experience which is includes several thousand .308 rounds using IMR 4064 / Varget / Reloader / Winchester .... primarily Sierra bullets .... several types of primers.... I have settled on Varget with CCI BR-2 primers in neck-sized Federal Gold Medal Brass. Of course every rifle is "different" ... but I have found with the Remington factory heavy barrels .... 42 Gr of Varget is my most accurate load pushing either Sierra 165 gr BTHP or 168 BTHPM ...seated 30/1000's off the lands (consistently shooting 1/2" MOA). A Sako I had shot almost as well with 43 Grs. seated on the lands. I have .308 BLR which likes 4064 better?
I don't think you can go wrong with Varget in a .308 as far as accuracy is concerned. If you just want velocity, you may find something else is better...

For target reloading I would recommend:
Neck size only.
Match bullets (experiment to see which weight your rifle prefers).
Match grade primers.
Get a flash hole deburring tool (not expensive) to deburr the flash holes (quick & easy).

The match primers and deburred flash holes are a very important means for obtaining ignition and burn consistency, hence grouping consistency.

Thus far I've been loading Sierra's 168 gr. Match Kings, 44 gr. of WW-748, and Federal match primers and getting 1/2 in. groups. I have bullet weight and charge weight experimentation ahead, to see if any further improvements can be gained.
