.308 loads for a M700, suggestions?

Hiyas,

I'm new to reloading and have read/bought most of the manuals/equipment I need except for the actual components. I will be going to get those this week-end but I had a couple questions first.

1- I was looking at load data in the Hodgdon website and they state Federal Primers & Winchester Brass were used for their data, does this mean I cant use the data if I'm using different brass/primers?

2- I have about 100 remington brass, good/bad? Is one brand better than another?

3- Buying "once fired brass"... good or bad?

4- Anyone have a good recipe for the .308? I'm using a M700 with a 24" barrel and 1-10 twist, hoping to push some 180gr SP pills (hoping to use up my remington brass too).

You can mix and match recommended primers as long as everytime you change a component you start at a reccomended "starting load".

Remington Brass is fine. Once fired brass is OK as long as your confident it is such, and not someones worn out scrap brass.

Lot's of different loads available, almost too much info on the 308. Easy to load for, every gun is a little different. Several powders will work well. Some bullets will shoot better than others.

I used Remington brass for years without a problem. After about 15 loadings the primer pocket might become a little sloppy.
Is one brand better than another?, Yes but is cost more, Lapua and Norma are great, but unless you plan to shoot matches it would be a waste of money.
Buying "once fired brass"... good or bad? No problem as long as you FL resize before you start.

hey, to echo the above statements:
1. you can use any brass any brand primer. I've been using primers from cci, federal, win, rem, etc etc etc...brass is a mixed bag as well
2. You can get the best brass, and you pay for it....but it in terms of reusing commercial manuf prestuffed for reloads, they are good for a while.
3. As long as they are truly "once fired", they should be gtg. Be weary of once fired but really isn't. you can tell right away..as brass is soft, and changes shape too easily, and the neck and throat may be longish due to being fire-formed 'once' too many times.
4. My starting load came straight out of the LEE MODERN RELOADING book. I used Varget and 180grn. I ended up using 45gn, and that packs a little bit of a wollup.
 
Varget or RL15 is good for almost all bullet weights in a .308. I load 165gr and 180gr bullets with Varget and all loads are accurate. Easy to load for.
