I looked everywhere for a 308 load using this powder and can't find any info.I plan to use Mag primers because I have lots and maybe a 150-168gr bullet.Any recipes or where to find one would be greatly appreciated.
You need a faster burning powder with those bullet wts. Classics are IMR 4895,IMR4064,IMR3031,H4895,Varget,BLC2 and W748. All have given me excellent accuracy in several .308Win and 7.62 NATO rifles.
If I was going to use H4831 in a standard 308, I would just fill the case to the top of the neck and force a bullet in by compressing the powder.
It will be a light load, but may be quite accurate,
WARNIN I JUST SAID WHAT I WOULD DO. I AM NOT TELLING YOU, OR SUGGESTING TO YOU, THAT YOU SHOULD DO THIS.
Always go by what is written reloading books, when you are reloading.
i have had very good results for hunting loads useing w-748, imr-3031, imr-4064, , varget, the slower powders you cant get enough in the case for more than a feeble load,, wade
Powders burn with reliable results in a certain pressure range. 4831SC is best at 50,000 to 65,000psi. Unless you load a 400 grain bullet in the 308, you will be in the 30,000 psi range. Velocites will be all over the place and half the powder will be blown out the muzzle. Even 4350 is too slow for your bullets in a 308.
It works in the 30-06 with heavier bullets because more powder can be squeezed in.
