So... with the mouse fart thread coming back up to the top lately I have got to thinking. Long ago in my haste to purchase some hornady 160gn ftx projectiles for my marlin 336 in 3030. I accidently grabbed a box of 160gn ftx marlin express projectiles.... well crap... and on clearence, so non returnable... here is my question. I am thinking of loading these down for some small game rounds (mouse farts if you would). I know I won't be able to load in my tube mag as they likely won't cycle (if they do then great thats a bonus). There is a recipe in the mouse fart thread for me to start with. I also know I will have to seat these pretty deep to keep them off the lands. Does anyone see anything wrong with trying this?

I did exactly the same thing and ended up with some FTX bullets I couldn't use in my .30-30. I seated to the cannalure and they wouldn't even close to chamber in a .30-30. I had to seat them so deep the case mouth would sometimes catch on the edge of the chamber opening and jam. I ended up using them for plinking in .308 and .300WM loads.

You can load them long enough to just clear the rifling and shoot them at whatever power level you like as a single shot rifle. Don't put it in the mag. Can be a pain to get out if it won't cycle.

Or just trade them with another guy for some 30-30 bullets.
