DA=Dominion Arsenal, IVI= Industries Valcartier Inc. DA produced commercial and ball ammo until about 1986 IIRC. Dominion Arsenal was them bought out by IVI - SNC Lavalin in Quebec. General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems - Canada Inc. bought IVI in 1989. I don't know where IVI ammo is made today. Anyway, IVI never made commercial ammo so your brass is probably 7.62X51 NATO brass. the DA brass could be either commercial or military. It's good brass but could be fired in a machine gun and hard to resize. Also, primer pockets are likely crimped. None of these things are a deterrent from reloading them, it just takes a bit more effort. DA has traditionally been considered a bit higher quality.
 
I would say DA is about as good as you can get for military brass.

IVI 7.62 is mediocre military brass. Perfect for a M-14.

Both need the primer crimp removed. Both must be re-loaded with about 2 gr less powder than a 308 commercial case because they have less case capacity.

As for price - look at what Tradex is selling it for.

Yes, LC, DA and IVI are made to NATO specs for 7.62X51 ammo. Only difference is the place it's made. 7.62 brass is thicker and has crimped primers. There's no external difference between 308 and 7.62 brass. The only time resizing 7.62 brass is harder is when it has been fired in a MG.
 
I don't ever recall see commercial Dominion brass marked DA. DA was always their military marking, along with a year, commercial ammo was always marked "Dominion" and then the caliber designation. I have quite a bit of both and a lot of Dominion 303 and 30-30, but only my military 308 is marked DA 58.......or what ever year it was made. IVI took over long before the 80s because I have some IVI 71 and IVI 73 and no DA cases past 66.
 
Note that IVI military brass can only be sold on CGN by businesses.
Too many problems with IVI brass of uncertain origins.
Because it is sold off as surplus from time to time in large quantities, businesses can sell here.
 
Interesting. I just found a 2 gallon pail of decapped and primed 7.62 x 51 in my late father's gear, god only knows where he got it.
But I've a Chilean 1912 that will likely happily digest it.
 
One of the target gurus told me, back in the eighties, that the DA stuff was as good as LC Match in accuracy. After IVI came along, the ammo was no better that the regular US GI stuff.

If military 7.62 cases fired in a machine gun are hard to resize in a .308 die they can be sized first in a 30-06 die or carbide .45 acp die. This reduces the body diameter with much less effort and then the cases can be sized in a standard .308 die.

I buy bulk once fired Lake City brass and "sometimes" the cases can be vary hard to resize. This is due to the the "type" machine gun the ammunition is fired in (chamber diameter) and because military brass is thicker and harder. Also a homemade case lube of alcohol and lanolin is one of the best case lubes for sizing these cases. Also the case weight of Lake City brass is more uniform than Remington or Winchester brass. And a fraction of the cost of new brass and just requires a little more prep work.

The 500pcs I've purchased have been great.
Don't know if there was a single dent in mine, but if there was a dent isn't going to stop me from reloading and using it as a bulk load crimped semi ammo.
All goes through the process of de-cap, swage, form, trim, clean. I wouldn't expect anything less.
