Hey guys. I have recent come across a 91/30 Tula Mosin that I could use some input on. The original military stock has been cut down severely but the strangest thing is that it has had the original barrel removed and a 19.5" .308 sporter barrel has been installed.
The new barrel has zero markings on top or underneath the wood except for Cal .308 on the left hand side of the breach. It has a ramped front sight with no hood and a brass bead. Even weirder still, the original graduated military rear sights have been redrilled and pinned back to the new barrel, rather than adding a commercial buckhorn or other typical sporter type sight.
Anyways, I was wondering if this is a one-off gunsmith project or if these were regularly rebuilt by an importer back in the day? The guy I bought the rifle from has had it since the 60's but doesn't really know anything about it.
