308 Norma Mag

Done that a lot in two different PH 1200 and it worked great. The slightly shorter neck usually's not an issue after about 2 or 3 firings. Same for the .358 NM
Anyhow, I also use the .300 WM or whatever Magnum cases I can get in large supply.

:redface:Getting and using the real thing if at all possible is just a 'thing' I have. 308NM brass I've accumulated over the years from factory ammo I've purchased and unprimed I've picked up at gun shows.
When I first got my Husqvarna in 358NM I did get some fireformed brass with it and did fireform some additional, just to get me going. Shortly after and just prior to getting a Schultz & Larsen in 358NM, I got a 'healthy' supply of new Norma unprimed brass quite easily from Henry at Budget Shooter Supply. I've also suppliamented my reserves of 7x61 S&H Super brass from Budget as well.
358NM's, Husqvarna on top, Schultz & larsen below.

Why use "other caliber" cases ??? I didn't have a great deal of trouble getting .308 Norma brass when I asked, or is it the cost of the brass compared to others that has ya looking at options?
Norma ammunition and brass is almost impossible to find and has been for years in my area, Prince George, Vanderhoof. WholeSale sports and Cabelas do not even stock it. I have been using and reforming 300 WM to 308 Norma for years, besides it cheap and no better than Norma brass. This hype about Norma brass being better than anything else is hype and nothing more. I have reloaded for both, literally thousands of rounds and have found Norma brass to be no more accurate, no less run out, and reloads just as many times as elchepo Winchester 300 mag.

I've used Norma brass in a variety of handgun aand rifle cartridges and I haven't found it to be significantly better, or worse, than most other brands. If you're having difficulties locating it in your area, give Budget Shooter Supply and/or Mystic Precision a shout. If anyone has it and can supply you with it, they can. There;), an end to your drought:).

I also recommend using 300 win mag brass. I've used different brands and have found that Remington brass was the easiest to reform, especially from once fired cases. The winchesters were a bit harder brass and would wrinkle in the neck and federals were inconsistent (some would wrinkle, some wouldn't) Remington's were soft enough to take the 308 norma die with very few rejects. This was all without any annealing so I'm sure results would vary if you knew how to anneal properly and results may be different using virgin brass.

Far cheaper and just as effective than trying to find .308 norma brass. I bought 100 used pieces at a show and had 55 of them as rejects. I'll never buy used again so long as I have my dad's once fired 300 win mag bras to scavenge from him, then I'll be buying bulk new brass.
