I like them both. I personally hunt using a Tika t3 in 30-06. it is a good all round bullet and you cant go wrong
I've been driving 180grainers over 3200fps in 30-06. Not sure you can safely match that in 308.
Ho - leee!!
As my GOOGLE says when I misspell something; did you mean to say 130 grainers?
With all respect, just wondering.
then you can't offer an educated opinion
I respectfully disagree. I've been driving 180grainers over 3200fps in 30-06. Not sure you can safely match that in 308.
I know enough to know you can't get a 30-06 in a lever... easily.
Browning disagree with you

That's pretty funny, point noted. I will be doing a fair bit of target shooting to get comfortable with my new rifle and then use primarily for hunting after wards.
I know a few ppl with both caliber rifles. I will have to get a couple boxes of each ammo and see if they would like to go target shooting. I am so torn between both calibers my head is spinning. I like the idea one poster had to just flip a coin but I will wait and see.
Now, I need to figure out a good bolt action to get once I pick out the caliber. More research to do![]()

I have found with my limited experience with bolt actions that short action rounds produce less felt recoil with very little drop in performance, and in my opinion greater powder efficiency. A friend I used to hunt with that has since moved away thought the .270 Win as the be all end all. Gives me hell for buying a 7mm-08. Even though they have slight difference in groove diameter, they use similar weight bullets. His Tikka T3 w/ 24" pipe sent 140 grain bullets over the chrono at 3100 to 3200 fps. My Ruger Frontier sends a 140 grainer out the front door at 2900 to 2950 fps with a 16.5" barrel. That rifle, as well as everything else chambered in .270 Win seems to want to pound me into next week, whereas the 7mm-08 I can shoot all day. Not the same thing, but similar I think.
Take it or leave it, I'm a big bore black powder guy anyway.

Wow, that's smokin', mind sharing your recipe, I've only ever got 2800 fps out of mine.
Not enough case capacity, no matter what type of powder.
Well, if you have read my other posts, I suspect my new Beta Chrony is a bit off.
It registers 2650fps for 180gr bullet over 52.3gr H4350 and 3200 over 58gr of the same.
Now, after all these measurements, some kid hit one diffuser rod and I doubt I can claim warranty.
I will try though.
But if it proves to be accurate, you'll have to live with it.
look me up before replying.
