308 Powders

Right now I'm loading 308 with Varget powder and 168g SMK bullets with excellent results.
Besides Varget, what other powders provide good accuracy in a 308?

I've had good luck with 4895. Reloader 15 is a good one also...

H4895 & RL15 would indeed be great choices, as would IMR 4064

I use Varget for my precision rounds, and Win 748 for my plinking rounds. Win 748 is a ball powder that flows like water. It is accurate too.

Hodgdon H335 and BL-C(2) should also work well with .308.

I also used Varget almost exclusively, but once loaded up some IMR4064 with 168gr. SMK's and the results were spectacular. I wouldn't hesitate to use that as my go to powder, however I find Varget more insensitive to all the temperatures I shoot in, whereas 4064 gets a bit slower in the cold.

X2on that one get a .75 MOA with HPBT Scenar 167gr

In all seriousness, you've got it exactly right; all of the powders quoted work really well. With all the good powders to choose from, and all the "known good" loads out there, it's pretty darn easy to get good results out of a .308.

(I'll throw in H4895 too, don't think anybody mentioned it yet)

I am using 46 grs of Reloder 15 and Berger 155 VLD and getting 1 ragged hole at 100M out of the R-25.

RL-15 and Bl-C(2) area great

Bl-C(2) was designed specifically for the .308 round and works awesome.

my first ever loads for my .308 were with IMR4064 and I got mixed results.. wasn't very consistent like I can get out of Varget or Bl-c(2) and RL-15.

+1 for 4895, helps a lot that it's the same stuff the military feeds it's rifles so semi autos designed for 7.62 NATO will eat it without a hitch.
