308 question

Hey guys I have a question regarding the COL. Im using hornady 150gr FMJBT with Federal brass trimmed to 2.010". I have about 1/3 of the cannelure exposed and my COL is only 2.725-2.735 and in my load book it says the COL should be 2.780. What should I do?

Yeah I just saw a bunch of other threads a few other guys had my problem it looks like the hornady 150gr FMJBTs are designed for m1 garands and there for the cannelures are higher than a dedicated 308 FMJ cannelure

The overall length in the manual is a guide!
If you want to use the crimp, then crimp in the cannelure and shoot them. There is no difference in bullets made for .30 M1 (Garand) and .308 Winchester.
If you want to optimize the bullet and barrel fit, then you probably don't want to crimp and you ignore the cannelure.

Other than for pistol or straight cartridges, in which case a small difference in seating depth can make a huge difference in pressure levels. Not the same for bottleneck rifle cartridges.

Telling the OP to shoot bullets that are less than listed COL?

OP: DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM!!. A better way to optimize your safety is to immediately send ALL of the rounds you have made, remaining bullets you have not loaded, AND any cases you have not loaded as well to me. I will properly take care of them for you and thus you will avoid any safety issues.

Or, you could do like they said and shoot 'em.

The bigger cartridges loaded with light for calibre bullets will never achieve listed COL since they are made for heavier bullets that come with the extra length needed to make up a listed COL.
