I use to help my dad reload when I was young but have had nothing to do with it to 15yrs. This year for Xmas my dad bought me some 308 dies and informs me he's getting back into reloading.

I have a Remington SPS Tactical in 308 with a 1:9 20" barrel. If anyone has worked up some loads and wouldn't mind sharing to help me save money, time and quess work I'd appreciate it.

obviously every rifle has a different appetite. Do you have a reloading manual? I would try to start with min loads of varget, w748, or IMR4895 and work up from there. I have had good luck with sierra 150gr and 165 gr bullets. It would help know if you are just shooting targets or will these reloads be for hunting.

My dad dropped off his Speer Reloading Manual for me to read. It will be for shooting tighter groups for the most part. I'm in the process of a build and I'm going to use this action as a donor.

I know each rifle is specific but thought there was a possibility someone with the same rifle/barrel might have a load worked up. From what I've read it says 168gr bullets are what work best with this rifle/barrel.

175 sierra matchking and varget shoot well for me and I believe many go to sierra bullets when they just want to get a new toy shooting good

this, the SMK may not be the best of the best (but who knows it could be in your rifle) but it very tolerable to bullet jump which makes it much less finicky to load to get out and shoot accurately. the SMK is my go to for all my rifles when i first get them built

Getting reloading data off of forums can be downright dangerous BUT in my guns and with all the other right words absolving me of any responsibility in 3 bolt action rifles of 3 different makes chambered in 308 winchester; what has worked extremely well for me is
a 165 grain sierra boat tail pill under 43 grains of IMR 4320 CCI standard large rifle primer Federal brass.

I have a 700 AAC sd and its a 1:10 twist, I am loading 168gr Hornady and speers match for less than 500 meters and 175gr for further distances. Hop on the hogdgon website they gave tables that will assist you with playing with loads. The 700 AAC SD does not like anything below 160-165gr, due to the "tight" 1:10 rifling.

Good luck and have fun, try varget and the Hornady match. Reloading is runnin me about 72cents a shot versus paying 2.28 a shot premade. Also you can play with powder loads, crimps and bullet set back.

I have been very happy using Ken Walters book," Pet loads" as a starting and some times, the load for almost all of my reloading. He explains how He came to each caliber reload with all possible bullets, cases, powder, primers. In many ways it is better value than just a reloading manuel on its own.

Any idea where I can get the book? I'm recovering from knee surgery on the 29th so some extra reading material would be nice.

Start low and work up to find whats best in YOUR gun

that said, i have the same gun and my pet load is

trim: 2.005
COAL 2.750
168gr Sierra Game King
43.4 gr varget
WLR primer

Remington uses 1 in 10 with a threaded muzzle or 1 in 12 without, for the SPS 20" barrel.
Either one will work well with 165 grain bullets for hunting anything. Partial to IMR4064 myself, but you will have to work up the load for your rifle.
SMK's and A-Max's are not hunting bullets. They're target or varmint bullets only. Not designed to expand.
