.308 Semi-auto Ishapore.

I'll third that.

You see some ads saying that it has been "upgraded" to Canadian, which means that it might have Cdn wood, a C1 sight and body cover. In this case add $50 bucks.

There are lots of Cdn-ized 1A1's out there and there are Cdn parts available, but being held onto or sold to the States where they fetch a mint.

"Friends don't sell other friends over-priced 1A1's"

There was a load of IA1's bought up for $99 - I haven't figured out why some are selling (usually not) for $350+
And they are commonly referred to as 1A1's, but they are IA1 (or my FAL book is wrong)

I just pulled mine out and did some looking/measuring.

The "I" in RIFLE is .170" tall.

The "1" in 1A1 is .140" tall.

Both 1's in the 1A1 are the same height, which is different from the height of the "I" in rifle.

I'll say it's a 1A1 based on that.

That said, the "I", and both "1"'s are all just straight lines on the upper receiver. On the lower receiver, I note that the stamping for the serial number is a proper 1 with the curliecue at the top and the bar at the bottom.

It seems that the parts for these Ishapore Rifles arent interchangeable with the L1A1. I have one that I wanted to toy with bit the L1A1 furniture wasnt an easy fit.

Anyone have any good luck with their Ishapore conversion?

Kept mine original. A lot of rifles had the RFI stampings removed from the upper. Mine still has them and the freaky part is there is the #471 engraved in the stock. 471 was the last 3 digits of my CF S/N

I have a 1A1 and it looks pretty C1ish. I did a lot of the work over 10 years ago so the memories are definitely damaged. I picked it up for $120 in 1989.

I changed the H.O.D (hold open device or breech-block catch) to a Cdn one with a fair bit of dremeling. I changed out the locking shoulder to put in a Cdn breech-block, carrier, and body cover. The rear sight required some fitting and I had some issues with the flash suppressor that took some work (I just don't remember what though). The furniture and carrying handle were easy.

I should post a pic of it, but I'm too lazy tonite.

It used to shoot very well, when we could still shoot them (Aren't we all feeling MUCH safer without them on the range..... )

FN's

One of my FRI FN's has all black furniture and looks it's in near new, and identical to the the one I have from BSA. I had to do a double take on it when I pulled it out of storage. I do know where there is a commercial FN FAL Browning marked. I haven't looked at it but it's like new, I believe they were sold commercially.

I will get another C1 some of these days just have to wait.

I wouldn't pay much for the RFI FN's they run about $100 to $175 depending on condition. Some of the RFI's are really beat and others are in great shape.
Worth more as a dewat. Some of the RFI parts are slightly different than the English FN's some parts fit and some don't.
I have one or two new C1 lowers left that I am going to use one for an Australian restoration.
