A friend of mine mentioned that his brother-in-law was using a shotshell made up from a .308 brass. From what I could gather it was some sort of an insert. He talked of in being made up just before firing and loaded. The brass cartridge case seems to be reusable in the field. I've never heard of this and wonder if anyone can give me any info?

Problem is I don't know. It was described to me one night at my curling club. Before the game! And that's all the detail I could get.

Firing any sort of a shot load through a rifled barrel spins the shot out and "blows" the pattern so badly that it would be next to useless beyond 10 or 15 feet; are you sure he wasn't talking about a sub-calibre cartridge that lets you shoot pistol ammo through a rifle (32 Auto through a 308/30-06, for example)?

Wellllllllll, you can get out to about 30ft in my experience reliably....LOL
Good enough for a bunny or squirrel in thickets....kinda.
