Not altogether true.

My 700 (.308) shoots 0.165" groups (when I do my part and Venus is inline with Mars) loaded to 2.80, as do a number of others.

it might shoot .164" @ 2.79" or .163" @ 2.81" too...

there is no cut/dried OAL for a particular cartridge for every rifle

Tried OAL's out to 2.93". (Long throat)

The best were 2.80" and 2.82".

The Speer 180BTs have been quite accurate in my BRNO 30/06.

Every rifle is different on what shoots best. Even with match bullets the ogive can change from lot to lot. One rifle may shoot one bullet best when jammed or touching the lands. The same rifle will shoot another bullet more accurately with a .050 jump.
