Can you not just use 7.62-39 stripper clips the base of the 308 is the same,this is how I hall around my 308 ammo and they are a dime a dozen

Nope, .308 is a bit too tight on 7.62x39 clip and clip are too wide for M14 clip guide.

The 7.62x39's base is the same size as .38 SPL/.357 Mag., makes it easy to pack around your pistol ammo in nice 10 round packs. The .308's base is the same as the .30-06, and is a fair bit larger than the 7.62x39's.
