it would be great if you quit drinking ...lol..factory ammo for the 30-06 does not get up to 200 fps over the 308..and I never asked about shooting coons in chit ..now move on ...lol

Its one thing to open a sensible discussion, but its quite another issue to start insulting not one but several respected members of our Forum.
Maybe its time for the Mods to help you find another playground ???

You children have fun debating the obvious, but everything I stated is true whether you want to believe it or not.

Maybe one day ya'll might grow up enough to be able to shoot a 300 mag and stop whining about the '06s and 308s

Hoyt and Kevan,...........it's OK it takes a better, more experienced man than these boys to insult me !!! It's kinda fun reading the exuberant and inexperienced opinions of youth and/or the uninformed. It is inevitable, that when faced with facts that cannot reasonably be refuted, that the uninformed and ignorant resort to insults. Some on here benefit from asking questions and actually reading the answers given by the more experienced, others do not and are really only looking to support their chosen cartridge/caliber/firearm..........In essence nothing but trolling, really. But thanks for having my back guys !!!

Geez...get over yourself already!

I think he's on the rag or something it'll pass. :d

I like the 308 because I like short actions and because I don't expect to be shooting animals at 700 yds with either I have better options for that. I load for both and don't see any difference worth worrying about up to 165 gr. The bigger case comes in to play in the 200 class though no doubt.

Im with Doug i will take my 300 WBee over my 308 or 30-06 anyday if i really want to make SURE whatever i shoot goes down and stays down - there is no comparison for sure ! LOL Right on DOUG ! :d Im looking forward to murdering some black bears soon with the big 300 BEE ! I have some 180 gr Fail Safe bullets loaded to near 3200 fps ! :)

Cheers RJ

to be honest with you many 30-06 rifles will run 100 fps slower than factory ammo specs ..in other words there is more of a diff in velocity from a 30-06 rifle to rifle than 308 to 30-06 in factory ammo ..sorry all you 6's ..and the 30-06 claim to fame is from the majority of hunting over the last what , 100 yrs , based on factory ammo ..

and you know all this how ? show use all your Chrono readings - i think your full of CHIT ! LOL :d jmo RJ

Me to. But, I've gone with a;) forerunner of the 300WBee. The 308 Norma Magnum:d.

RJ...........but that would mean one would actually have to have shot stuff with the 300 Wby to experience the significant difference it produces. I love my 300 Wby and my RUM with 200 gn Accubonds and now I'm going to be trying 195 gn Matrix Bonded RBTs. Probably the load I'll be using in Africa this fall, but I'm still thinking about my 340 Wbee as well........decisions, decisions, decisions..........Anyway we better let the boys get back to their informative debate as to the relative merits of 308 vs 30'06...........
Think I'll go do something productive and go assemble some test loads for my 300 Wby and 195 Matrix RBTs..........

Lol just to stir people up, I am a fan of the '06, and everything I have shot with it, moose included, have stayed down just fine lol.

Ah, I'm just aggravating. I am one of those boring fellas that love the 308 and 30-06, but yes, there are much better rounds out there than those, no doubt at all. Use what ya love boys, and enjoy the sport... We're all here for the same reason... Because we love guns. No need to get all worked up over who knows what. Just enjoy having a place for us gun lovers to spend some good quality time online lol.

If you put two cartridges on the table, 30-06 looks ugly while 308 looks cute. As can be proved by this photo. The left one is 308, the right one is 30-06

They are both ugly! :runaway:

my 7mm-08 has taken Moose. 30-06 and 308 have very similar pressure ratings meaning you can get very minimal difference powder charges. 308 is a smaller case and the greatest benifit I see from it is the fact you can buy surplus for around 50c a round trigger time can only make you better. 30-06 thiuh a beloved cartridge by many is out dated. If u wanna carry a huge cartridge around get something in a magnum. ive been shooting 300wsm out of a 6lb rifle since I was 15. But I also am fine hunting with my 7mm-08 and confident I can take down any animal. 2 elk several deer and a moose have been taken by it
