.308 vs .30-06??

Some of you guys are pickin' the fly sh!t out of the pepper.

THEY'RE IDENTICAL!!!
I'm stealing that one-liner, just so you know ;) My dad is a logger, so I've heard some good ones, but that one is gold!

It's true, though. I realize that the point of a thread like this is to debate the differences right down to the +/- 100 ft/lbs of energy, but think real-world for a second; Are you gonna line up on a buck's lungs one day and think to yourself "I'm glad I got this 30-06, that extra 250fps and 100ft/lbs will come in handy right about now!"??? Seriously! Even target shooting, .308 and .30-06 were (and still are) neck-and-neck out to about 200 yards, which is WAY farther than 80% of hunters ever take game. But I digress....

.308
Because you can carry more.:p

Are you fighting in a War that you need a 100 rounds? I have both 30-06 and 308. The 30-06 does have a slight advantage, they are not identical. You cannot load a 308 as hot as a 30-06, its case capacity, more powder = higher velocity.

If I was to only have one rifle, I would pick a 30-06 over a 308. Also someone mentioned 308's are cheaper to shoot, I guess that 1 or 2 dollar a box will upset your budget.

Just a quick question, with so many voting for the 30-06, why aren't there more in the "percision" section? It seem s to be more towards the .308

Lapua doesn't make 30-06 brass;)

Most precision shooters want to get away with the most performance from the least size, recoil etc.

Yeah... we live in Ontario, love semiautomatics and shoot a lot of rounds.:p

.308 is cheaper rounds to buy!!

Don't know about you but most gun shops around here have almost all their factory ammo priced the same.

For me, the 06 with 165 gr. is pretty much all I use for both moose and deer. In NB we don't have the BIG meat eaters to worry about and I'd be comfortable using the 165's on black bear if needed.

And no the 308 and 06 are not identical.
