Very true, but then there are combinations of cartridge shape, bullet shape, and other esoteric factors that make some cartridges perform better than others. I think the 6.5 is one of those. It's well over 100 years old, but very few cartridges can outshoot it, and for some very odd reason, it performs much better than it should on game. Mind you, with the advent of super high quality bullets, that edge has decreased somewhat, it remains an inexplicably effective, accurate and pleasant cartridge. And I only have 1 6.5, and my favourite caliber is the 45-70, but the 6.5 has an appeal that few other guns have.

I have my pair set-up each a little different in order to differentiate them for me. I think at the end of the day either one will get the job done. I like having both but if it came down to it I'd pick the swede.
Saw a nice old 1942 Husky 6.5x55 for sale down here.... the action is in obviously great condition, the wood has been butchered of course, the barrel has been changed at some point in the past.... too much money of course, but still.... another project rifle....?
The 6.5x55 with heavier bullets will beat the .308 in the wind...? These are good things to know.... shooting out to 500 metres with both, the wind gets to howling on that Prince Albert range.... Do you have any tighter statistics, or is it just an experience thing, Tenguns...? Would you say half the deflection of the .308...? How heavy are the bullets you are shooting through your Swede.....?

I've killed a lot of deer with a swede or it's ballistic twin the 260 remington, probably about 10. My first 260 also killed a midsized moose with two shots in the chest after I foolishly sold it.
My count with the 308 is about 8.
Both work great, both do the same thing, medium sized game out to distances most guys shouldn't shoot but if I had to pick on it would be the 6.5.

Depends on what you are going to do, how often you shoot it, etc. I love both cartridges. I find the 6.5 a wee bit more "shootable", but if you don't reload, or live near a major center or large gun shop, almost every store that sells ammo will have 308 ammo, whereas 6.5 can be very hard to find, although that does seem to be changing.
After looking at some of the rifles in the Husky #### thread, and a few in the 9.3x62 thread, it struck me that one definite advantage to the Swede is that you can get one in one of those beautiful old Husqvarna rifles....! Definitely a bonus.... or, did they chamber Husky's in .308 as well....?

It's no secret I'm a swede fan, I own three. To date I have taken bear, deer ( both Whitetails and mulies), coyote, a billy goat and a handful of Elk. One 6X6 at 260 yards and he dropped in his tracks (140g partition). Last Fall I took a mature cow at over 300 yards and it was a complete pass through ( 130g Accubond). As long as it's used within its limits, and with quality bullets, it's a very formidable round.
