308 win fired in a H&K

Birchwood Casey makes a brass cleaner in liquid form, dilute 4 ounces in one gallon of water.
Works really well, one hour soak will brighten things up, dry then tumble to polish.

i tried using some g 96 , in the media it buffed the black soot more than removing it, due to the amount of brass i have using steel wool to buff off the crap is counter productive

Have they been sized and fired in a non-fluted chamber yet? Punching out those dimples might make for an easier clean next time. I trust you are using walnut media??

i am using corn cob, it was once fired in the h & k , if it wont come clean i will scrap it, god know haw many years it has sat dirty, in the crate,

Corn cob does a good job at getting the dirt and soot of of cases, but walnut is king when it comes to scouring them.

Use the lemon, orange or lime stuff that you have to ADD sugar to. It runs about 25 cents a pack. Do not use sugar. Ice tea mix has sugar in it.
