.308 Win light recoil hunting loads

For a lighter bullet, I have used the Speer 130 gr HP. According to them, the HP has better penetration than the 125 SP. I used 38gr of 3031 for my 10 year old to shoot. No real recoil. It would be a good place for your wife to start shooting a 308.

Have you tried them on Deer sized game ?

A friend gave me a half box of those last week and I tested them on saturday.

I shot a couple of very good groups (two only groups I shot with that powder). 43 and 44 grains of 4064 did the trick (last group .8").

Couldnt' believe how well those cheap Stevens 200 rifle shoot with no modifications.

No, have not used them on deer. But I did talk to Sierra about that, and they said the HP would not expand as quickly as a soft point.

I got the idea of target shooting withthe 125 from an American who told me they often used the 125 for 200 rapid fire, due to lesser recoil. It has too much wind drift for longer distances on the range, but fine for 200.

My sons used it as a starter for target shooting.
