.308 win reloading on budget, big question mark

.308 is very versatile. Reloading full power rounds will cost you, you need jacketed bullets, but for mid range and subsonic you can use cast. I use 311299's with sr4759 for mid range at 1500-1700 fps. For subsonics I use the same bullet under a few grains of 700x at a total cost of under 10c a round at 300-500 ftlbs at the muzzle. You need to harden the bullet and use a gas check for speeds around 1400 I believe. I wouldn't expect the same accuracy with casts though but good jacket bullets cost so much nowadays...I'm thinking sierras.

I get 2050 fps with lead, and 2-3" groups or better at 100yds. You can go a lot faster with lead too, if you are prepared to work on it.
I shoot a lot of cast bullets in almost all my guns now.

Shoot SKS rounds to save money when minute of plate is good enough.
Handload for 308 when bullet holes touching matters.
