hi everyone

i want to shoot 168 gr berger bullets from my 308win and i want my load to be THE BEST

the missing part is the powder.
i had descend results with imr4064 and smk168.

i would like to use varget powder as its very stable with temperature, the problem is the avaibility of that powder on the market.

is there another good choice of powder that will be very stable with temperature changes ?

I use IMR 4895 in my 308's as a standard and it performs well. I know for their 210's Berger reccomends this powder in a .308. You might want to give it a try. Start around 42gr and work up...

.308 loads

I used W 748 (45 gr.) with the Hornady 168gr. boattail national match bullets for hi power silhouette matches with good success...CCI Large Rifle primers..

is there a major difference between the 4064 and the 4895 ? ?
and the magic question: this imr 4895, i can expect the sames results as the varget with its suposed tolerance to temperature change ? if its a yes, i'll go try it thats for sure with my 168 gr berger.

I have had very good results with WW 748 and IMR 4895 as has been mentioned here already. You might also try Reloader 15. Another powder I am just starting to use with good results is IMR 8208 XBR although it can be hard to get in certain areas.

and with all those powders, is there one i can be sure my poi will always be the same, in the summer or winter, froom -30 to +30

I love my Varget in my 308 and 22-250. It can be really hard to find at times though. Try H4895 or Benchmark. They are both in the Extreme powder family and have little variation of poi through tempature change.

Even Varget will not produce the same POI at -30 and +30C. Those extreme powders tend to be more stable under high temperatures, have in mind these powders were "created" in Australia by ADI, where shooting under very low temperatures in somewhat unusual.
You have to live with this, it's Physics. It's called GAS LAW.

Varget is not a hard to find powder. Any place selling IMR / Hodgdon / Winchester powder will have it, since it's all distributed by the same company, Hodgdon.
From your pseudo, I think you're from Quebec, then I use to buy Varget at LaTulippe, Dante, LeBaron and Higginson powders. IMR 4064 is similar but not identical to Varget and RL15 is also very close.
PM me if you want places to buy Varget.
