.308cal and 6gr Titegroup. Am I reading this wrong?

All I have currently is 3lbs of titegroup. Looking at the hogden website it's saying to use 6gr Max in 308. Is that right and safe?

It is a very fast powder. Good for shotgun and pistol.

Cast bullets in 308 in a pinch, but there are much better powers than TG for that.

I've used somewhere about 2 grs of bullseye with a 90? grain wadcutter in 30-06 for grouse loads.....
Is the titegroup load for heftier cast bullets?

I recall that 6gr of Titegroup was a good starting load for subsonic ammo. You know, for use with supressors; which we're too dangerous to possess. Heh.

Pretty much all I shoot in one of my Israeli 98's is 10gr Unique with LEE 155gr WW gas checked cast bullets. I have also used many pounds of 700X for the same type of loads.

If you mean don't use pistol powder for "full house" loads, you are correct.

It certainly won't be a high powered load. I use around 5.5 grains of titegroup for loading 45 acp.

It is right and safe.

I've used 8gr in my 308's under a 165gr Hornady BTSP or 150gr FMJ as per Hodgdon . If I remember correctly It was leaving at around 1025fps. It wasn't very accurate though.

12-14gr of Trailboss is much more accurate and leaves around 1150fps

There are several powders not originally designed for rifle use that work fine. Many silhouette loads are pistol or even shotgun powder based.

2400, Red Dot, Tightgroup, TrailBoss, Clays, Universal, etc........ lots of "listed" loads out there for several different rifle chamberings.

Hodgdon reloading center tells you to use 8 gr titegroup in a 308 with a 168 gr bullet. For 1080fps and 24,000psi
Id trust hodgdons more then random people on the internet.

Saying that i use 5gr tite group in my 303 british cases for years now getting 950fps with a 100gr bullet.

My guess would be quiet plinking load. You can also buy gas checked cast lead projectiles for half the price of FMJ's.

That's part of it for some people. Other people just want to try something new, and loading subsonic or low velocity allows you to try something new without buying (another) new rifle. Titegroup is quite good for mouse-fart loads but I've never managed to get great accuracy using it in 308 and larger rifle cartridges. For that I've done better with Red Dot, Unique, and Trail Boss. Trail Boss might be capable of slightly better accuracy for low velocity in the rifle cartridges but Unique is so versatile that everyone should have a lb or 2. Unfortunately Unique has been very scarce for several years.

Thats all I've shot through mine the last little while, does that mean I get a new 308?
