OK, here it is,
I have in the reloading room
308Win
Win 748 Powder
150g Fail Safe Bullets
150g Ballistic Silver Tip Bullets
Full Length & Small Base dies at hand

Barrel is 20" (Semi Auto)

I would like to get some higher velocities out this combo, any suggestions, I did have someone give me a suggestion earlier, but I have miss placed the paper I wrote it down on.
None of my books list any info on this combination.

Other powders available are
IMR 4350 (Probably not a good choice)
Win 760
Reloader 22 (Probably not a good choice)

Unfortunately no one had any Varget or Reloader 15 on hand.:(

fill the case to the top and seat a bullet, and fire them in your rifle in a rapid fire fasion in a gravel pit, offhand with no hearing protection

Do you really find it funny to give people extremely dangerous advice?

Thanks Tod, I'll get right on it.................................................NOT!:p
No this semi auto is a Rem 742 from 1967 "a Canadian Centenial Rifle" I would like it to last without wearing it out to the point of no good.

Boney - I did try to locate some H4895, but heard that 748 was at hand and would work just fine, however I don't have any info for this combo, as mentioned earlier, I miss placed the 748 recipe that I wrote down on a piece of paper.

With 150 Nosler Ballistic Tips, 47.0 gr.of Varget or 49.0 gr. of IMR 4320
according to Hodgdon Data, is supposed to give 2937 from a 24" barrel ... you will give up a little in your 20" barrel.

All 3 of your alternative powders are too slow for the 308 / 150 grain combination. Your best bet is to stick to your 748 unless you can access some different powder.

You need a powder in the same general burn range of your Winchester 748. Hodgdon's Varget, IMR 4064, Reloder 15 etc will all work.

BTW, You also do not want to start "hot-rodding" any loads used in your self-loader. They are designed to operate over a fairly narrow pressure range and overloading will break parts, guaranteed.

748 is one of the all time classic 308 powders. Look at the Winchester site for load data, there is a ton of info out there for this powder.
