30BR anyone shooting one?

I've been intrigued by them as well and I thought that for lighter bullets it would rock. Barrel Maker Mick McPhee is shooting a 30-(6.5)X47 Lapua and it seems to be working extremely well for him. I am leaning towards building a 30X47Lap for an ISSF gun.
I want one, does that count?
I built up a 7.62x39 gun with a .308 bore barrel, and call it my '30PPC'
It's a blast to shoot, and very accurate with 110 grain VMAX bullets, into the 3's, which is surprising as the gun was built with a 1 in 10 twist factory take off barrel. It makes a decent coyote rig, except for the fact that it doesn't feed well from the mag. A 30 BR, though, should feed and eject better, and would just be a matter of running a reamer into it.

6mmbr.com has an extensive article on this wildcat. Can be very accurate and a darling with short range score/varmint BR. That larger diameter will gains points now and then over the 6mm.
It is a light bullet rd which can be a royal pain in Canada. The 110gr Vmax is likely your most accessible bullet. Not sure what the light Sierra availability is like.
Most shooting this rd use custom FB match bullets not available up here. If you find someone making or importing these type of bullets let us know.
Another problem is barrel twist. You need a very slow twist 15 to 17. Some barrel makers don't bother going that slow given the low demand. Mick McPhee will and builds very nice 30cal pipes.
Obtunder, for 300m, it would be great but you will give up a bit in wind drift compared to the 6BR and 6,5's. Will you gain that back with a bigger bullet hole? Pretty much a toss up. It certainly has potential.
I had a nice chat with Mick re that 30 Lapua. A nice package but certainly not new. With a change in shoulder angle and a few thou here and there, this 'new' wildcat is essentially the 300Savage run at elevated pressures.
There is little doubt it will work if willing to put up with more recoil.
For me, I would just build a 308Win. That way, I can use the rifle for any F(F) event. The short 30's would put you in F(O).

We're building a few rifles in 30BR over the coming winter.
Although BIB's bullets are great others have had great success with Bergers.
17 twist 30cal barrels are available through Rob Mclennan in Ontario(proven performers)
If your 6BR is set up as a switch barrel a 30 would make an easy and nice addition.

I have messed with a 30 BR a bit and it works very well. The 150 grain Sierra MKs shoot well and the Speer 125 gr TNTs might be the best commercial bullet available. I toyed with the idea of barreling my 300 meter rifle in 30 BR but decided to go with the 308 to keep wind drift manageable.
Back in the day, many people played with all kinds of short 308s which were essentially the same as the 30x47sm for HBR. They shot fine. Every bit as well as the standard 308! The big difference today is the use of light bullets in a slow twist barrel to minimize recoil.
Personally, I plan to stick with the 308. It seems to work fine to me. Regards, Bill.

The 30BR seems practical for my home range which is limited to 300yrds. Less Powder/recoil then 308,all that jazz. Though having the options with the 308 is great and easy to come by, plus barrel life is excellent. My sav is set up as a switch barrel. Arrgg 2 many options, feels as though I'm spinning in circles trying to make a choice between the 30 cals. A wise man once said to me >, " Just Get Both!" truer words were never spoken.
BTW I go on 6mmBR.com alot(understatement) sea of information, I also go on Benchrest central (great ppl on that site,picked up a few tricks from those guys.) Believe I've seen you on their also Jerry.

Mick McPhee also makes superb cut rifled 30 cal barrels in any twist you want.
I guess I lean to the 30X47 because I can... I love the 6BR so much that I have little interest in messing with a good thing. The 30 cal 110 gr, Bergers with a slow twist combined with the case capacity of the 6.5X47 lapua case strikes me as a gun with interesting potential in the 300M and varmint game. Definitely not a greasy as a 6 or 6.5, but under the right vonditions I think it would be fun.
I already have all the bits and pieces for a 6X47 Lapua, I'm just waiting for a Krieger barrel

A friend of mine used one for silhouette back in the day in an XP100. worked well, but recoil was a little heavy for long courses. - dan
