My brother has a 6mmBR factory rifle on order. I don't want to buy the same caliber, but would like to stay in the same class with the BR. Who has the experience with th 30BR and a few details of the rifle would be helpful.
For this firearm to be used for what it's design is, probably not so much. We buy guns because we can and it brings a smile whenever we go to the range.
 
30BR is super popular in SR Score shooting. Pretty much rules that roost. 6mmBR.com has a few project rifles you can see.

YoDave on this site has been shooting a Shilen 30BR for a few years now and doing well.

It is a wonderful rd for its intended use. Good or bad really boils down to what you want this rifle to do for you.

There are many successful chamberings using the BR case. The 7BR did superb work in silhouette shooting and may still be a good rd today.

you want a 17 twist for 30BR and pay attention to the neck clearance with the newer brass. You'll never wear it out and is for-score, it dominates in shortrange BR. Sweet round.
 
I'm not a BR or "precision" shooter, but I have a couple of Krieger 1:17 barrels chambered in 30BR. On one barrel, I have shot over a hundred consecutive 5 shot groups @ 100M ..different days...various conditions ...varoius powder and bullet weights.... and got an uncherry picked agg of 0.3" C-to-C. I use H4198 powder and Berger 110/115/125gr bullets. Second barrel is giving similar results. I understand in the competion game, the 30BR dominates 300yd score contests. I Have one more barrel (light Palma) due back this week, and another 17 twist #3 on order. The last barrel was ordered in late May...so there is a bit of a wait from Krieger.
I went with 0 freebore and a 0.330 neck chamber. Requires turning the necks down a fair bit, but brass lasts a long time. I have over 25 reloads on one set of brass and it is still going strong. A buddy has 37 reloads on some of his brass. Article from 6mmbr has a guy saying his barrel has over 7000 rnds and still accurate.
Seems the velocity range for the Bergers between 2950 - 3000 fps gives best accuracy in my barrels.

I think you have to form your brass for the 30 br, not sure though. I shot a friends at my first BR shoot and they shoot well. Cheers

That is what I am waffling about. At first I thought a 1:10 twist so I could play with some heavier bullets but the truth is that would never allow the cartridge to achieve its maximum accuracy with the lighter bullets. I'm not quite ready to buld yet but getting closer. :)
 
I ordered my 30BR barrel from Jerry quite some time ago, it has the 30BR robinett chambering, for those not in the know Randy Robinett simply ran a 6mm br brass into a 30br sizing die and had the reamer made to these specs, the case will shorten when it is necked up, trim to length for the Robinett chamber is 1.500 with a .330 neck, a fair bit of neck turning is required.

From my experience with mine, powder and bullet variation and type do nothing to group size at 100 yards, you really have to tune at 300 to see any noticable differences, all in all wind becomes the major factor.

I put togeather a stevens 200, 24 inch 17 twist shillen stainless match barrel, rifle basix 4 ounce trigger, sharp shooter supply benchrest stock.
I prefer Norma brass over lapua in the 30, turn my necks to a loaded diameter of .228 and load just into the lands.

Once my 222 remington savage scoremaster project is completed I may look at the new 30XBR created by smokin' joe, slightly different shoulder angle and a 200 +/- fps velocity gain. Although I have shot under MOA at 600 yards with the configeration I am shooting now.
