30mm Lapping Tool

Ordered one from Sinclairs

So can I borrow yours then...:p ;)

JK. I'm going to be ordering one shortly for myself. I've been sitting on a project myself for a few months now - haven't gotten around to mounting the scope as I've been too lazy to pick the phone up to place the order....

hsld.

Russ Haydon's Shooting supply has them for about $20 U.S. Easy company to deal with. Website by the same name. Short of the glossy catalog's, I kind of prefer them to Sinclairs.

Thanks for the info bisonhd, I'll look them up.

I personally don't have any TPS rings, wouldn't mind getting some though. I want the bars for verifying the rings I do have are lined up properly before I bolt in that big dollar scope. I do tend to shift things around a bit.

Thanks,
Eric

Go to you local MetalSupermarket and buy a peice of 30mm drill rod or even a peice of 30mm round CRS (cold rolled steel). They will sell it to you in any length you want.

When I was looking for a 1" lapping bar I took my dial caliper to a metal supply place and measured bar stock. Just about everything that I checked that was a nominal 1" checked out at 30 or more thousandths over more or least. Stainless was bang-on though. 30mm stainless bar wasn't in stock at the time, but I am assuming that it is turned to the finished dimensions as well. The bar stock approach works, but make sure that you are getting what you think you are getting.

Some material does come .030" oversize. However CRS, drill rod, some stainless, Superior shafting and Thompson shafting are all nominal size.

We have new "Plenty O Patches" 30mm lapping bars for $38.00. These are stainless and come with a plastic coated handle that screws into the middle of the rod. Also comes with a container of fine lapping compound. Phil.

If the bar has a slight bend....so will your scope (pending how you lap). A vee block or home made V block will help ensure your bar is straight. Definitely measure your bar @ least @ two locations 90 Deg apart.
