Im ready to do a run of 32-40 loads for my Stevens. I have resized 30-30 cases, and got a box of Hornadys 170 Grn .321 Bullets.

What I can't find is a good recipe to trust. I've googled it and have come up with a load of 16 Grns of H4895 for 1409 FPS.

Can anyone confirm this? Apparently it was listed in an old Hogden book that I can't find.

Any other good recipes?

The Stevens actions (44 1/2) aren't up to the same pressures that something like a High Wall would take. Don't try to push them too hard. I have one that is getting a rebuild when a barrel comes my way.

Have you looked at the "Smokeless in antiques" sticky under the Blackpowder forum here? Might have some hints or let you know if you are on the right track.

Interested to hear more about the gun and how the loading works out.

Don't understand why you are using jacketed bullets in an old Stevens, soft cast would be the ticket, possibly breech seated. Do you know the barrel rate of twist? If it's 1-16 or faster you can use heavier bullets normally used for schutzen shooting and very accurate. If using fixed ammo, my load is 37 grs. of Swiss 3fg, and a 205gr. bullet, if breech seating I use a full case of it.

This rifle was passed down to me from my dad, he used to run these though her in the ol days.

Therefore was the load I was trying to duplicate.

Factory Load on the left, 30-30 resized case to 32-40 on the right. Hornady bullet next to the right case.

Very nice! Nothing like the feel of a well built falling block and that one looks nearly flawless.

Great to see these guns staying in the family and being appreciated. I can see why you want to replicate the Dominion loads and I'm a bit surprised that you are having trouble finding loading data. 32-40 isn't that rare and I would think that the cowboy action bunch would be fuelling a little more interest in them also.
