We all know 32-40 is very hard to find. I picked up some brass recently and will be loading some up. I also found some 32 special rounds. My question in can I use the bullets from the 32 special to load 32-40? The information I have found so far is mixed some yes some no. I'm looking to load for an old marlin beauty. Thank you in advance.

Short answer is yes, they can interchange. But the 32 special bullets might not expand at 32-40 velocity and might not be a good choice for hunting. What mv are you loading the 32-40 rounds to?

I have an old (1900) Marlin lever in 32-40. The bore on it is not great but I get decent groups out to 50 yards with it but I’ve never hunted it yet.

You can make brass from 30-30. I picked up a Lee 8mm 2 cavity mould which I cast and powder coat using IMR 4227. Works for me. I’m getting about 1200 fps.

I love the .32-40, a few years back I picked up a Model 94 John Wayne Commemorative that the original owner allowed sit in a wet rifle rack and the butt plate rusted. Good shooter out to 100 meters. I am using .322" 175 grain RFN bullets from Prairie Projectiles. I also recommend getting a .32-40 taper crimp die from Buffalo Arms in Idaho, they ship to Canada.

My preferred load is also with IMR 4227 pushing out at 1,391.5 fps and gives me 2 3/4" groups at 100meters.
