hey guys, i've been pondering the thought of picking up an antique status pistol for S**t's&giggles. the biggest problem that i've run across is the fact that ammo is pretty much non-existant and converting them to anything else centre fire is either a no-no status wise or not a good idea because of the pressure's modern day loads put out. so where do i go from here? if i can find a box of 32 rimfire can i re-use the brass? i wouldn't be shooting a ton out of it, but i'm not looking for another paper weight either. FYI i am already set up with all my rifle re-loading stuff so its not like i'm starting from scratch. any help or links would be appreciated, thanks.
 
hey guys, a member pm'ed me some lead's. hc collections and dixie gun works sells reloadable brass. it looks like they've turned down some brass rod into the shape of a 32 rimfire case and made it so a .22 blank is inserted as a primer. it seems like you put the bullet in first, then the powder from the back, then seat the primer....hmmm. at least there's still hope for these little guys.
 
Tactical870 has the re-loadable cases, I use .22 cal hilti shots in mine, the medium ones and a lead shot that is just the right size, went through several of the sizes of shot before I found the right size, I cant remember which one it was. They do work ok, in context they work great, because an antique pistol is not some thing you shoot 50 rnds from. If I was to buy new ones I would get the ones in the larger caliber hilti shots as the .22 ones some times miss the shot and the pin hits the casing.

I have seen .32 rimfire new ammo go for as high as $120 for 50.

Converting an antique to center fire is instant prohib, one because you are converting to a prohibited caliber and two because under the firearms act any change in caliber or ammunition, changes the status of an antique and there fore it is no longer an antique. People have played with this, I have seen a .32 rimfire sleeved to .22 because the barrel is only 2 inchs long it is now prohib, person that had it argued with me, but funny enough did not want to contact the firearms center to verify the pistol.

I do not like the laws and feel they are all bullsh$t when it comes to these firearms but it is still the law.
 
thanks, i will definitely contact him if i end up with a 32 rimfire, its nice to know that there are still options for shooting these guns. i know what you mean about our laws regarding antique status guns. its like they picked and choose the caliber's that were easy and readily available still to obtain and put the on the naughty list, of coarse the evil 25 and 32 cal's are all banned. just gotta play by the rules they make i guess...i do like the american laws: 1-anything pre 1899....that is all....well no auto's i guess too
 
I read an article the other day about taking the brass from the 32 rimfire and drilling it out and putting a certain primer in off center. For revolvers it will work well
