.325 wsm vs .338 win mag

When you get shooting cartridges like the 338WM, and the 325WSM, you need a good stock design, and one that fits you.
Stocks make a huge difference in felt recoil, and that may be at least partly why the 338WM in some rifles can pound the crap out of a guy.
The 325 benefits from not being around as long, and therefore generally is in rifles with modern design.
Couple that with less powder burnt, and generally lighter bullet selection, and you get a rifle with less felt recoil.
My first 338WSM is the only rifle that actually bruised my shoulder, and I don't bruise easy. I traded it, when one day I was shooting at a bear, and my thoughts were on the recoil. (yes, I got the bear)
Since then, I've fired 338WM in rifles that fit me better, and the recoil didn't seem any worse than a 30-06.
Some day I'll own another 338WM, I loved the cartridge, but hated the rifle I had it in.

I can not understand hunting with these canons. What turns people onto these. I have shot 375 H&H 300WM. but have never felt the need to take one out hunting. I have taken Moose Deer and Bison all with a 30 06 and never did I feel under powered. I did move up to a 7m Rem Mag 5 years ago but only because I wanted to try some longer distances.

So what don't I understand?

You don't understand that when you use a bigger gun it works better. I know an 06 will kill anything, a 338 will kill anything better/faster/more dead. See what a .416 does on Moose/Elk. NO tacking.

You can hunt everything with a 30-06 and 180 grs. You can also drive everywhere in a K-car. Some of us like shooting the big guns, some don't. That is really it.

X2... Just like my mustang is too fast, why....well, why not eh. And yes I have a 338, and you all just enticed me to take it out to the range today.

No such thing as more dead. Dead is dead. Magnums increase range and energy and penetration. Some people feel they want or need those increases, and others do not. That is all. Nowadays with the Barnes Tsx and Ttsx bullets, those advantages can be realized in standard cartridges anyway. Its just a preference thing.

Agreed other than TTSXs in the bigger ones are still better.:)

The 338 is an amazing all around cartridge, maybe the best at least for yukon/alaska game, flat shooting and mild recoil. The 06 will kill anything but there is a reason the bigger calibers exist. In my experience animals react much differently to receiving a large diameter bullet, and all mine have all dropped on the spot. Not knocking the 06 its a great cartridge, but I'd take a 338 anyday for moose and grizzly and a 458 is even better :)

Grit,

just because you have a lovely 458 doesnt mean we all need one lol ... in fact we need one if we dont have a 375 ruger. but i know that you have one too ... arent we gunnutz .....

see you soon.

Bigger Bullet if mass is retained equals bigger wound channel therefore dies Sooner than later if place properly & less or no tracking is the point I believe he was trying to make.....Dead is Dead.....Sooner is better than later though on the Big Meat or any meat for that matter way in the bush or off the side of the road!!!!

.338 Winchester Magnum. A classic! It even sounds as punishing as it really is on your choice of game.:)

.325 WM , lets try to re-invent the wheel to drum up new sales.

nothing new with the 325 wsm it s a 8x68s in shorter brass like the 300 wsm.

338 was new in the 60s and a lot of people didnt like novelty as today .... and at time the ammo available going up to 300 grains ...

nothing new of course ....

Another concept that's been built is a 338 WSM. Less powder then a 338WM but there are a few around that have been custom built. Also, it's been discussed here and the thread exists on here somewhere... The only catch is that one has to reform 325 WSM brass and it won't be headstamped 338 WSM.

.338 WSM? Are you serious? Shoot me now. It will flop even harder than the 7mm WSM.
