32's are they all prohib?

There is a list of calibres which negate antique status. .32 Colt and S&W are on the list. .32ACP is not on the list, but I do not believe that there are any pre-98 pistols in the calibre. .32 rimfire pistols are antique if pre-98. So, all .32 S&W, .32 Colt, and .32ACP pistols are prohibs.

You will have to determine the exact model. M&H revolvers may be antique, restricted or prohibited, depending on calibre and/or barrel length. There is a single action spur trigger model listed in .32 H&R which is classed as antique.

I believe the Walther GSP .32 holds special status and is not prohibited due to it being used in Olympic competition.
My buddy has one and does not have 12-6 status.

Taken from the CFC site:

Handguns:

* manufactured before 1898 that can discharge only rim-fire cartridges, other than 22 Calibre Short, 22 Calibre Long or 22 Calibre Long Rifle cartridges;
* manufactured before 1898 that can discharge centre-fire cartridges, other than a handgun designed or adapted to discharge 32 Short Colt, 32 Long Colt, 32 Smith and Wesson, 32 Smith and Wesson Long, 32-20 Winchester, 38 Smith and Wesson; 38 Short Colt, 38 Long Colt, 38-40 Winchester, 44-40 Winchester, or 45 Colt cartridges

The regulations use cartridge names. This is not directly related to calibre. Most .32 calibre cartridges actually have bore dimensions closer to what would be considered .303. Bore diameter a bit over .301 - .303, groove diameter in the .310 - .312 range. Bore dimensions of 7.62x25 and 7.65mm short (.32ACP) are very similar, one qualifies as prohib., one does not. None of the true .32 calibre pistols - 8mm Lebel, etc. are prohibs, whether antique or modern. Keep in mind that the basic qualifications to draft the law and regulations were either superficial knowledge or fundamental ignorance of firearms.

To expand on Tiriaq's comments; the answer I was given by Kathleen Roussel, a lawyer for the justice dept, was that is the head stamp of the factory loaded cartridge which is important. So there are two things to note here; one is that the bullet diameter is unimportant and the second is that the length of the factory load is important. In other works, as I understood her comments, a .32-20 revolver which had the cylinder shortened by .050" or so and the barrel set back accordingly, would no longer chamber a factory shell and cease to be a .32 cal cartridge unless that happens to match some other named .32 cal shell.

Thats intresting !
Thats why CFC told me its OK to have a Antique WEBLEY 455/476 MKI MKII or MKIII that a full 45 colt case can fit in untrimed and the rim unaltered in other words a factory 45 colt case can fit even if the cylinder has been altered so the factory 45 colt case fits by reaming the chambers deeper and cylinder back shaveing for full 45 colt rim thickness!Even tho 45 colt is on the no list. The guns were orignal chambered for 455/476
BECAUSE a Factory loaded 45 colt WONT fit cause the bullet sticks outa the front of the cylinder.
Altered cylinders even if its for a 45 colt case Dont Matter in the Webley cylinders MKI and up series!!
Simplely seating the 45 colt bullets deeper in the case lets them work fine tho ;)

Sorry this is off the 32 subject but its all intresting.
32 HR is OK as a Antique Revolver so CFC told me.
I almost bought one in the US but it was a H&R in 32 H&R caliber.
Theres a few around there a break open hinged frame 32 CF that you pushh on the Axis shaft strait back and eject all the 32 H&R cases.
Very neat little guns but hard to find.
I must say the Tecs at CFC have never gotten in my way in any shape or form to hold me back!
Instead they have been more helpfull in expanding my collection of Antique Firearms.
Course i only talk to the good ones :D
