I was fascinated by this wildcat for several years. I had mine finally built (338-06AI) in 2008 off a Sako m75 Greywolf. It was a new 25-06. I did a thread on this build back then. I had a new PacNor Supermatch grade stainless barrel, cut to 24" , fluted and powder coated to match scope- with a Leupold VX3 3.5-10x40 scope in Gunmental Grey mounted in the Sako Optilock Ringmounts. The rifle weighed in the same as a factory Sako m75 Greywolf "V" action (7mmRM/300WM/338WM).
I built it to shoot 225-250gr bullets. The rifle shoots 225gr Accubonds and TTSX's very accurately, even in the medium/hot loads shot for fireforming new brass for the AI reloads. At the time I initially I had found Weatherby 338-06AS stamped brass (2-3 boxes), then I found a supplier of Norma headstamped brass (Norma made the Weatherby brass) , so I bought a lot of them as they were hard to find.
Lately I am tempted to do load development for a 185 gr TTSX for it. I have not used this rifle too much over past few years as I always go for my Sako 75 SS 300WM. This 300WM has been my goto rifle since new back from 1997, and still is my moose camp gun.
I am also very tempted to built another off a Sako m75 338-06 and go with a 22" barrel with a #2 or 3 contour with a Macmillan stock. Lighten it up some compared to my Greywolf.
