Hello...just in the middle of putting one together
700 SS action "blue printed" raceway, threads, action face, lugs recut
PTG one piece bolt
McGowen "Remage" barrel and barrel nut 10 T 22"
Used 700 walnut stock
Used bottom metal
700 3 screw trigger
Glass TBD

Interested in hearing about loads performance etc

I fitted a new PTG one piece bolt to it (bought from canam with no bolt or trigger), the FP is not installed, neither is the trigger. What looks like the safety is just the empty cut out.

I was going to say......

after zooming in on the photos.....

There was no trigger, thus the safety looks different as all you see is the shadow from the inletting.
The bolt looks different as it is minus the firing pin.
and finally

the creme de la cream........ it is using a Savage type barrel nut.........

Even though it may be a used stock it is a sharp looking rig.......

Synthetic on a rifle is nice for durability. For eye candy NOTHING beats a tree crafted into a rifle stock.....

There you have it ....... It IS a 700 after all! :)

Be a nice rifle finished up.

I've always been enamoured by the 338-06. This one is off to a great start. What will you be using it for? Looks like a pretty heavy barrel for a walking around moose rifle. Silver vxII would look good on it.

I've taken 3 elk with mine. First one with 225gr Nosler AB over h4350 (2625 fps), and the next two with Barnes 210gr TTSX over CFE223 (2750 fps). Great cartridge. It is a FN Model 70 with a 23" Pacnor, McMillan Edge, Timney trigger and PTG floorplate

working on a new one. Defiance Machine Rebel action, Timney Calvin Elite trigger, McMillan Edge stock, PTG floorplate, Benchmark 23" fluted barrel. Hope to have it ready by spring. I use the Vx3 3.5-10x40, have used the Fx3 6x42 in the past too. I will try Ramshot BigGame with the 210gr TTSX first

Shell Shucker: those will be the DIY folks of the industry: with little or no real knowledge of the real workings of a rifle, as obviously you folks have no clue what a brl-nut is actually doing then! More so: there is no real time-savings to be had, but just a wonky, poor and out of ctr bore-line brl to ation-face fit!

Never seen a barrel nut on a 700 before. Odd

Yes I agree.. a big step backwards from a shouldered barrel for me. A 'fix' for something that wasn't broken. I would charge more to install a nut on a 700 barrel than a regular shouldered barrel.... and if you are switching it around you have to use a gauge every time where a shouldered barrel just gets knocked up tight. Ugly as hell too.

The 338-06 will easily achieve 2700 f/s with 225 grain bullets. It is like a light .338 Win Mag...

Not quite as ugly as a savage lol. Other then easy headspacing from one action to another, no advantage as has been said. Got it on a trade and figured id give a try.
