.338-06 Performance?

Nice rifles guys :) I finally get to see your RMR build, Mightypeace. Made 'er hefty eh? That'll keep the shoulder thump to a minimum with the heavier loads. The Model 70 RMR built for me only weighs 7lbs 6oz with the VariX III mounted so she's a touch more lively at the bench but a joy to carry over hill & dale ;)

It did a posting in November 2008 about the rifle.

Weighs in like the factory Sako m75 Greywolf "V" action - 7mmRM, 300WM, 338WM. The rifle is a tack driver:sniper: Now to break it in a a big spring bear or wait till fall for a bull moose or elk. It sure comes up to the shoulder nicely. Very well balanced.

As mentioned, 225gr AB's or TTSX's reloads have less felt recoil than my Tikka T3 LS 270WSM with 140gr AB's reloads.

I call it SOMETIMERS !!! :D:D Sometimes I remember, sometimes I don't.

That is what I tell my wife when I buy a new rifle...I told you, dont you remember....or maybe I forgot to tell you.;) Somtetimes I remember to tell her about my hunting purchases. Then I get a :kickInTheNuts: The pain goes away after a while.

I too remember swapping info on 338-06 on CGN and Hunting BC forum.

Later

I have been using numerous 338 Win Mags for many years with extreme satisfaction and high success. Moose, elk, griz, black, deer, goat, sheep, and even the wiley coyote.

I have a beat up pre 64 model 70 30-06 that may see a .338 barrel and Macmillan stock some day.:)

Nice pics of the other rifles guys.

As an owner of 2 "stock" sako model 75's I can say to yours,
NICE

Thanks.

I do love my Sako m75 rifles. Now have 5. Looking at another or 2 for a project rifle - 270WSM with a new MacMillan stock I like. Now to convince my wife I need another 270WSM. Also looking at making a 330 Dakota either off a Greywolf or SS model.

My trued 700 with a Gaillard 24 inch barrel, Kwik-Klip conversion, decel pad and a Defensive Edge bolt knob. Dual dovetail mounts and a 3.5 x 10 Boone and Crockett scope. Factory 700 stock has been refinished in a matte finish. Shoots 1/2 inch with 225 Hornady's at 2700 f/s in Lapua 06 brass. I left the barrel bright but I am going to blast a matte finish this year... it doesn't really matter though.

I remember your picture...nice rifle.

As for the polished barrel, looks good. I have had no problems with big game seeing my rifle - Sako m75ss 300WM with the factory barrel fluted, the flutes teflon coated and the rest of the barrel polished-looks like a Weatherby Accumark.

Elk/deer/bear with in an arms reach. Nice thing with this rifle is it will "reach out and touch an animal" with a 180gr Accubond quite superbly if I choose to do so!!
