Very nice rig... well put together... you don't need WM velocities to have an effective game getter on elk and moose... I would be inclined to load it to 2500 and leave it alone.

Here is the .338-06 suppressed that I used in South Africa. It belonged to the PH. The shot was 230M rested on the dash of the Land Rover with engine off, of course. Three hours of chasing a herd to get one of only two that were brown.

Well, now you know you can get the speed. How's the accuracy?

Great build by the way. It'll serve you very well up there.

Shoots pretty good so far, only fired it a couple dozen times with 250gr Interlocks and 250gr Woodleighs. Here is a 100y group with 250gr Interlocks @ 2425 fps, +0.5" high, and bullet drop @ 200y & 250y

I'm getting .25 moa out of my 338-06, max load with 210gr TTSX at 2850fps. An older Parker Hale Target receiver and bolt, Schilen hunter contour #3 brl - 21 5/8" length, Timney trigger, with a Leupold V1 3x9 - had a CDS turret put on by Korth. I'm only getting 2450fps with 250gr Sierra SPBTs but .50 moa with max load IMR 4320. Love the rifle! The 210's are my main round, low recoil, accuracy and speed is a good combo for me ......

Hey Mark,

That is one beauty of a setup! Curious to know what distance you'd feel comfortable reaching out to with the 2600 inital velocity load on larger game (moose/elk).

Fantastic rifle. I have a semi custom rem700 in the same caliber. Absolutely love it. Someday I hope to get a full custom and I have been looking at the same build you have

That's one sharp looking hunting rig right there!

Love the caliber choice, I have a semi-custom 700 with a Ron Smith 9" gain-twist barrel and it is deadly-accurate. Oddly enough (and thankfully!) it shoots cheap Speer 225gr SPBT's as well as anything else I've tried in it so far.

It's a shame this cartridge never really caught on, it's such a nice intermediate round!

300 yards should be a sensible distance. Last six bull elk I have shot, avg is 80 yards
